Ways to get to toledo?
Just 70km from Madrid, the communication routes between Toledo and the capital are very accessible and varied.
The AVE (Spanish TGV) from Madrid (Atocha Station) to Toledo
This is the easiest and fastest option. The journey takes about 25 minutes, and the frequency of trains is approximately one train per hour. Atocha Station is the most centrally located station in Madrid and the one with the best communication. Tickets can be purchased online at www.renfe.com, or from the automatic machines at the Renfe station. Trains depart from the lower floor of the AVE (TGV) station. Price: €12 one way / €20 return.
Once you arrive at Toledo Station, there are different options for getting to the historic centre:
On foot: You will find pink markings at the exit of the station that will show you the way. After crossing the Alcántara Bridge, you will find escalators on your right.
Taxi: 5€ approximately to the Plaza de Zocodover (main square of Toledo)
City bus: Lines L-5, L-8.1, L-8.2, L-9.2, L-12 and B-2
Tourist train
Bus Madrid-Toledo (Alsa)
This is the cheapest option. There is a bus every half hour, and the journey takes approximately 50 minutes, a duration that varies depending on traffic. Attention! Not all buses are direct, some stop in villages and take longer to reach Toledo.
The buses depart from Madrid from the bus station in Plaza Elíptica, connected by Metro lines L6 and L11. It is recommended to arrive in advance because the seats are not numbered. The ticket can be purchased online or directly from the automatic machines at the bus station. Approximate price: €6 one way / €10 return. More information at www.alsa.es
Madrid-Toledo by car
If you like driving, it is very easy and quick to get to Toledo by car:
Exit Madrid onto a ring road (M40 or M50)
Take the A42 towards Toledo (a road located between the A4 and the A5)
In 65km, exit the motorway at exit 68B, towards Toledo / Urban Centre.
Unless you want to leave your car in a private car park or your hotel has this service, it is not advisable to go by car to the historic centre, as the streets are very narrow and most of the car parks are reserved for residents (green zones). Don't even think about it, the city of Toledo is a real trap for cars. There are several public and free car parks at your disposal before entering the city.
Private car parks: Corralillo de San Miguel car park, Recaredo car park, Santo Tomé car park, etc. http://www.turriano.org/index.php?url=/estado/parking
Public car parks: Safont car park, car park towards the AVE (TGV) station.
Parking meters: Paid parking in orange and blue zones (2 hours maximum). Green zones are reserved for residents.
